Two showcases you won’t find anywhere else kick off our coverage of can’t miss events

Whether you seek seasonal cheer, festive fun, or a relaxing weekend in the mountains, you’ll find it all in north central West Virginia this December—and White Diamond Realty doesn’t want you to miss any of it!

To help you plan for holiday fun, we’ve compiled a list of fun activities that will make you an expert on all that’s happening in our area this coming season.  We’ll reveal them all in the coming weeks, but let’s begin with two stellar choices that require a bit of advanced planning, i.e., tickets!

Dive into December

To kick-off the season in style, attend the 2022 USA Diving Winter National Championships. The main event will be held December 14-18 at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park in Morgantown, where more than 100 top divers will compete for national titles in individual and synchronized diving.  The event also includes fan experiences to help submerge spectators in this championship dive-fest

Will any of these divers join Team USA in the 2024 Winter Olympics at Paris? Considering the quality of the competition, we rate that possibility a ten.

For those who can’t get enough splash, there will also be a qualifier event at the same location on December 12-13, when divers on the competition bubble can win a spot in the championship event. For ticketing options, including discounted rates for groups, visit the event website.

Family Fun Continues at the Aquatic Center

The 90,000-square-foot Aquatic Center opened in 2019, but it isn’t just reserved for future Olympians. It features a community pool for family-fun and a 50-meter Olympic Competition Pool and Diving Well, which serves as the home of the WVU swim and dive teams, as well as area high school and rec-league teams. Everyone is invited to return to the Aquatic Enter after the national competition and use the same Olympic pool as the champions—because it’s open for lap swimming and community water classes!

During the summer months, visitors of all ages enjoy the Outdoor Splash Pad and play areas, and for those who want to bulk up or lose weight, a dynamic fitness center on the 2nd level allows members to get a full-body workout! Also, check out the indoor, zero-depth entry pool that includes play features like water slides! For more information on memberships or visitor passes, check out the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park website.

Snow Queen Spectacular is OnPoint

Diving isn’t the only activity requiring grace, form, and precision. One local dance company brings these qualities to every performance, and they will showcase them all in a true one-of-a-kind event that promises to melt your heart with a tale of bravery and friendship.

Morgantown Dance’s fall performance of The Snow Queen ballet will rule the Metropolitan Theater on November 18th and 19th. Based on a story by Hans Christian Anderson, this classic tale of good and evil reveals how the Snow Queen, who has been pulled to the dark side by an enchanted shard of glass, enchants Kai, turns his heart to ice, and steals him away to her castle. Things get really adventurous when Gerda embarks on a journey to save Kai!

If this sounds familiar, it’s because the story behind the ballet was also the inspiration for Disney’s Frozen. So. if you know someone who loves that movie, you can’t let them miss this show!  However, this production is original to Morgantown Dance, because it was created by their own Artistic Director of Community Productions, Desiree Witt!

From the garden of eternal summer to the land of the Snow Queen, this Morgantown Dance production is renowned for spectacular settings and fabulous costumes. And of course, the talented, disciplined dancers of this community company bring their very best to this chilly treat.

Tickets for the Snow Queen are available through Morgantown Dance, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide opportunities to dancers in Morgantown and surrounding communities.

That’s all for this edition, but we’ll be back soon with more ideas on entertaining (and being entertained) during the holiday season. Until then, check out our latest featured properties.
